The story of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent's point of view
By LovesBooksandCats
The story of Maleficent is the story of Sleeping Beauty wonderfully told from Maleficent's perspective. The story is told in third person through Maleficent with a splatting of Stephan's view point (you were learn about him from either of the two books based on the live action film or from the film itself.) The story tell the origins of Maleficent, how she grew up, why she placed a curse on Aurora and how her interactions with Aurora changed her destiny. Be warned, this is a darker version of the story based on the film and not really intended for young children. If you want to read the story of Maleficent to younger family members, check out, The Curse of Maleficent.
Maleficent is a fast paced read based more closely on the live action film Maleficent and being more heavily focus on Maleficent. It goes into more depth on the character of Maleficent and goes into more detail on her interactions with those around her (particularly with her raven) more so than The Curse of Maleficent.
All in all it is a great read!

is that Lucy Rayner was one of the best narrators! Her accent was perfect for the story
By Charles
The first thing I have to say about this audiobook, is that Lucy Rayner was one of the best narrators! Her accent was perfect for the story, and the fairytale type story. Rayner's pace was even and flowing, I had not trouble following along.

We all think that we know the story of Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent, but do we? This story follows the life of the classic "villain" Maleficent, and let me tell you, you have no idea of the true story of Sleeping Beauty. There were lies, deceit, and revenge throughout the story.

After suffering the utmost betrayal of losing her wings, Maleficent learns the truth that Human's cannot be trusted. There has always been war between those of the Moor and the Humans in the neighboring Kingdom. Once Stephen becomes King, things get even worse. When Maleficent learns that Stephen's wife has given birth to a baby, she pays a visit and places a course that will plunge Aurora into a deep sleep only to be awaken with "True Loves" kiss. As Aurora grows up "hidden" Maleficent begins to become attached to her.

Overall I really enjoyed listening to this story, it followed right along with the movie recently released by Disney. I always love when there is a story, and then more than one viewpoint is given. We now know the story through Maleficent's eyes.

Maleficent's origin story
By MaliceInWonderland
This book is a part of the series that includes "Fairest of Them All". While I enjoyed Fairest more than this story, I thoroughly enjoyed both.

The book starts with Maleficent's birth and works through most of her life. The curse at Aurora's baptism only happens halfway through the book, which I found really worked for the story. The author/ screenwriters of the film take several of the expected points and really twist them so as to still surprise the reader. She does a good job with humanizing the villian, although I wish they had left her a tiny bit more evil. I do like that other events contribute to Maleficent's change, not just one specific one that is commonly used.

Overall, a fun and fast read before the movie comes out, which interesting twists to keep you interested.
