A GREAT way to learn Solidworks!

I purchased this book to learn solidworks after completing tutorials included with the program. I am about halfway through, and I am very happy with the book. The book teaches through detailed projects, each project is different and builds on your skills to date, and introduces new tools or techniques for each new project. So what you've learned at any given point gets reinforced as you proceed, helping you not to forget previous lessons.
As important as learning how to use the program is how to go about designing a wide variety of different parts. You might know how the program functions, but if you don't know how to approach a certain type of project, you'll have a tough time making it. The book teaches you how to proceed with many different types of parts, from machine parts, threads, to what would normally be molded in plastic and even a styrofoam folding food container. Sometimes the trick is just how to start a part. I highly recommend this book for a beginner or intermediate user.

I have a 2010 version of this book and found it very informative. But the 2014 version had much of the same information as the 2010. So for new users it would be a good choice. But for me it did not have enough new things to give it a higher rating.

We’ve been purchasing this book every year for the past 3 years.
It is nice to be able to have a book in hand that focuses on more advanced topics and it is not just a click-and-pick type of tutorial.
We use this book for training our new employees as well as a reference book for our R&D engineering personnel to use whenever needed.
Great book, we’ll buy the next release again when it becomes available.
Highly recommended.
