Fantastic

I devoured this book in one sitting. As a retail pharmacist, I obviously choose a career path where it's easy to forget the clinical impact we can have on our patients. This book gets you excited again. It reminds the reader of the several problems caused by medications and suggests simple solutions. The author reminds pharmacists of the unique lens through which we view healthcare, and he demonstrates how to think clinically and solve problems involving medication management.

The only obvious complaint I see to this read is the way information is presented. Topics, for the most part, are completely out of order. However, I find the lack of organization to be this read's greatest strength. The book is not meant to be a comprehensive review of pharmacotherapy, but rather to provide real world examples that help some individuals (myself included) remember medication "pearls." The brain craves variety, so I find the typical pharmacy read will often lose my interest before I learn anything of significance. With this read, not only does the author have my attention, but the anxiety of returning to the book is greatly reduced when later sections of the book don't depend on information presented earlier. Great job and thank you for providing the pharmaceutical community with this gem!

Book filled with valuable clinical pearls

Sometimes reinforcing old knowledge can be quite boring. This was a quick read that gave real world examples of the interventions pharmacists can make on a daily basis. His insight into his thought process into the medication management of his patients was helpful. I plan on investing in his other products available to help pass the BCPS exam.

Patanjali's Sutras Maximum Explanation

No conflicts here, especially since so many Patanjali authors conflict with each other. Swami Hariharananda is the real deal, no faking, no puffery, no pretending, not a new age guru who just learns the words, like so so so many. Truly and inspiration. No conflicts with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, also Self-realized. You just cant fake this stuff, and SHH authors the strongest Patanjali book in the world. For very similar information, and the Sutras taken from gross to subtle, from creation to pure consciousness, using SHH's book, please also see The Meditation Manual for Seekers.

Mark Mirabello, Ph.D., is a professor of history at Shawnee State University in Ohio and a former visiting professor of history at Nizhny Novgorod University in Russia. One of the most intriguing and controversial books to come out of the pagan community!

In crystal-clear prose, Mirabello presents the philosophy of Odinism. He details the terse and moving rituals of the enigmatic secret society known as the Odin Brotherhood, from their three annual festivals, to their mysterious “Sojourn-of-the-Brave” initiation ritual, to marriages, to the child naming ceremony, to funerals. The writing style, which uses dialogue to convey "truths," powerfully captures the warrior spirit that is at the heart of Odinism. In a world filled with decadent New Age books that will quickly fade into obscurity, I suspect that this beautifully written masterpiece will survive the ultimate test of time.

essential reading for any one interested in the "Northern Mysteries" a very cool dialogue and a definite answering of questions. very well written and extremely entertaining according to the author this dialogue really took place. who am I to judge as it very well could have been real. one of my favorites.

It's very easy for us as human beings to get caught up in old patterns of thinking, and we often lose sight of

these that made the journey uncomfortable at times, but also allowed me to move into those a-ha moments. I

Dr. Tim O’Brien is an award-winning psychologist who has held senior academic positions at Westminster College, Oxford and at The Institute of Education, University of London. He currently works with individuals and teams across a range of business sectors. Tim also works in English Premier League football (soccer) and has been Club Psychologist for three teams in the Premier League. He has won awards for his work in the field of emotional and behavioural change. He is a member of The British Psychological Society and a Senior Associate of The Royal Society of Medicine.

Unique and full of insight.

In my view Dr O'Brien has written a unique, elegant and practical explanation about how ones thinking controls and can transform parts of our behavior. I have learned more about my thinking and how to change, from this book by far, compared to 12 weeks of NLP training and enduring (at ridiculous expense) a Tony Robbins self-development weekend. It is true I did not burn my feet when walking on hot coals (at 2:30am?) however that experience taught me nothing about how not to get burnt by the fears and anxieties one can self-generate as part of daily life. This book offers astounding yet simple insights into the why's and how's of what we see as fear and failure and re-frames the meaning of confidence and happiness. I like the way Dr O'Brien starts many chapters by making counter intuitive statements about things we take as norms of behavior or excepted wisdom. All done with the addition of gentle humour. In this way he disrupts your thinking which reawakens your inquisitiveness and keeps your mind open to learning. As a senior manager for many years the chapters on leading and teamwork have refreshed my tool kit on understanding motivation and collaboration. This book is must for anyone about to embark on the journey of self-understanding.

Read this book before other "management improvement" books

Disclosure: I’ve known author Tim O’Brien since university. We even share the same birthday (although, as I always remind him, he’s always older than me.)
So rest assured, this review has to be the most-objective I’ve probably ever written.
Looking to be a better leader, or improve team performance? Time to discard populist texts in favour of a learned one.
Time to buy this book and have it on your desk – whether you’re a manager, leader, sports coach, parent, or even international rock star.
Because O’Brien goes back to clinical, behavioural and observational basics about the psychology of the mind, and then makes it comprehensible and relevant to the rest of us.
Written in an accessible but slightly formal style, he establishes and explains, over 11 chapters, what’s going on inside your head, and how that necessarily affects everything you do, and everything you seek to do.
And then explains how you can change those internal references, world views and anchor points, and focus them anew on what you seek to achieve.
It feels like I’ve made a career of reading management books on performance and leadership. None comes close. How could they? Because every single one of us is an individual, so it’s impossible (for example) to corral us into one of four, or eight, behavioural or leadership styles. We, and those we work with, and those we manage, deserve better.
O’Brien explains why, and how.
His chapters cover the following subjects: the inner story your psychological sub-conscious creates inside your brain, understanding the behaviour it influences, where fear play its parts (as well as how to manage and redeploy fear), being more successful, happier, and confident, what being a better leader actually should mean, being a higher-performing team, and finally, a chapter on understanding how each of us changes continually – how none of us is static, but constantly reappraising what’s going on around us, and seeking to map those external inputs to our inner frames of reference.
If what I’ve described here sounds faintly alternative, rest assured, it isn’t. His text and experience is rooted in clinical psychological evidence and training.
A couple of examples: higher performing teams never get to “the end”, never get to being definitively “high” performance. and those which are truly high-performing understand this, as individuals within the team and as the more-complex, cohesive group. He also emphasizes the benefits (and need) for effective communication in high performing teams, and that lack of effective communication signifies a team not performing well.
But he also posits the concept of the “soul” of a higher performing team, that empathetic understanding between team members that allows them to construct a single team perspective, with mutual support. To achieve that requires every individual to understand their inner story, and for the team managers or leaders to understand how these various motivations and perspectives work together.
The second example is O’Brien’s analysis of how we construct personal perspectives in each of our minds, subconsciously and consciously. The subconscious perspectives are of course often submerged, and it takes work to identify what’s really going on there. This is important, because until the two are aligned, dissonance is likely.
He also asks the reader direct questions, ones he expects us to answer, and leaves space in the text for us to write down those answers. (I chose not to do this, not wishing to make my copy of the book untidy – I’m sure he’ll have a field day with this.) So he expects us to use the book as a training manual, and we should.
His style, as noted at the outset of this review, is slightly formal. No surprise, given O’Brien’s academic background rooted in teaching and research. That’s why his book makes you think, which is what I like about it the most.
Thinking is perhaps what all of need to do more: about what we want in life, what we want from our teams, colleagues, families and friends. Getting leadership and performance right is not a two-day seminar or a one-hour psych. test.
In any case, every team will, from time to time, fail, or not achieve its potential. Every performer, manager, teacher and individual will, occasionally, be faced with self-doubt. To assume it won’t happen, and to assume it’s a weakness when it does, is neither helpful nor realistic. None of us can predict what will happen next. What we can do is prepare ourselves to manage, overcome, and emerge from those moments better prepared and performing to our best. Understanding your inner story makes this possible.
Read this book. Then have it on your desk, and use if often enough to make it dog-eared. Its contents worked for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, and rock star Sir Elton John, so you’ll be on good company.

Once in a while a book comes along that makes you go 'Wow". This is one of those books. It is a wonderfully empowering and humane book. It fills you full of self-belief. I love the authors view that there is no such thing as self-esteem and his proposal that you do not have one potential you have many potentials. The author uses stories from his experience as a psychologist to put forward his views and ideas and very thought-provoking views and ideas they are too. His writing is compassionate, funny and disruptive and there are those moments when you feel he is communicating directly with you and talking about thoughts and events that are straight out of your own life! This makes the book a really enjoyable as well as an absolutely fascinating read. I am working on a new inner story that will help me make a very important change, one I have been unable to make for some time, and this book has given me the confidence and practical steps to do so. It gets a resounding five star recommendation from me.
